Re: End HECS Theft Before The Next Election
Further education is increasingly out of reach for young people.
Degrees and TAFE qualifications are becoming increasingly expensive, leaving young people either priced out of university and TAFE or forced to take on a large amount of debt before they have stepped into their chosen careers.
Education should be accessible to everyone – not just those who can afford it.
We also ask that you end HECS theft by:
a) Anchoring HECS repayment threshold to the median wage – this means lifting it back up from the punitively low threshold of $45,000.
b) Cap the cost of university fees by stopping the proposed 7.5% increase by 2020.
c) Stop decreasing university funding
d) Unfreeze Commonwealth Supported Places, allowing students from all backgrounds to study in their chosen field
